Welcome to Kensington, a small incorporated town in Montgomery County, Maryland, that grew up after the B&O Railroad completed its Metropolitan Branch in 1873. Developer Brainard Warner planned it as a Victorian community, and the town’s 1891 railroad station is still in use as a MARC Train stop. Kensington Antique Row, centered on Howard Avenue, gathers antique and specialty shops, cafes and restaurants.
Every Saturday morning, a farmers market sets up at the Kensington MARC station. Kensington’s housing mix includes Victorian-era homes along with other single-family houses on tree-lined streets, and many streets feel quiet and residential. Even so, the antique district, dining and the train are within an easy walk of much of town.
