Welcome to Wheaton, a community in Montgomery County, Maryland, built around the triangle formed by Veirs Mill Road, University Boulevard and Georgia Avenue. It’s known for its high concentration of international restaurants, and Westfield Wheaton, which opened as Wheaton Plaza, anchors its shopping. The Wheaton Metro station has the longest escalator in the Western Hemisphere, at 508 feet.
Much of Wheaton was developed in the 1950s, and its housing includes single-family homes on established lots along with townhomes and condominium and apartment buildings near the Metro. Wheaton Regional Park, home to Brookside Gardens, adds a large stretch of green space and gardens close to downtown.
