Welcome to the National Mall, the landscaped park in the heart of Washington, DC, that stretches from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial and its reflecting pool. The Washington Monument rises at its center, and the Mall is lined with museums, including the National Museum of Natural History and the West and East buildings of the National Gallery of Art.
The Smithsonian Metro station sits on the south side of the Mall. The Mall itself is federal parkland rather than a residential area, so homes nearby are in surrounding neighborhoods such as Penn Quarter, the Southwest Waterfront and Capitol Hill. Those areas offer condominiums, apartments and historic rowhouses within walking distance of the monuments and museums.
