U Street

Welcome to the U Street Corridor, a historic Northwest Washington, DC, neighborhood once known as "Black Broadway." The landmark Lincoln Theatre and Ben’s Chili Bowl share the corridor with music venues like the 9:30 Club and the Black Cat, and the African American Civil War Memorial, dedicated in 1991, stands nearby. The U Street Metro station opened in 1991.

Housing along U Street includes restored Victorian rowhouses, many divided into condominiums, and modern mid-rise condominium and apartment buildings along the main corridor. Many rowhouses keep original details such as bay windows and brick facades, and side streets offer quieter blocks just off the corridor. With top-tier walk, bike and transit scores, daily life here happens largely on foot.
